Top Questions People Have
Is there anything for my children?
Where and when are your churches services?
Do you really have coffee after your service?
So what should I expect on Sunday morning?
What kind of church is this?
We are a made up of bunch of people who are trying to live out what the Bible teaches. The Urban Vineyard is a place for people who are at any stage of their walk with God. It's a safe place for people who are looking for answers to their spiritual questions, and simply want to check out Christianity without anyone pressuring them. It's also a place where those who have decided to follow Jesus Christ can learn and
be encouraged in their spiritual growth. The Urban Vineyard is a part of the Association of Vineyard Churches.
What should I wear?
Clothes. For those of you who like more details, come in whatever you are comfortable in. You may not see very many suits or ties, but we invite you to come as you are.
Will I have to say anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?
You will not be put on the spot, singled-out, or embarrassed at all. We do pass out a newcomer's packet which includes some basic information about the Urban Vineyard. We do like to collect some basic information from people but if you'd prefer not to give it that's all right with us.
Is there anything for my children?
While all age groups worship together at the Vineyard, during the sermon, there are activities for kids from birth to grade school. We have a nursery for infants & toddlers as well as fun & educational classes for kids up to 14.
Where and when are the church's services?
We meet at 2145 N. Maplewood Ave in Chicago's Bucktown/Logan Square neighborhoods. You can click on our Find Us page to get more details. We meet at 10:30 am and end by 12:30 pm. (With ministry & fellowship time.)
Do you really have coffee after your service?
Yes. coffee, tea & other stuff, too! We believe that fellowship is an important aspect of being in a church. So we give time after the service for people to get a cup of coffee & meet someone they don't know. (p.s. - did we mention that it is really good coffee, and not that "been sitting in that huge coffee urn for 5 hours" coffee?) Watch for the debut of the Urban Cafe page.
So, what should I expect on Sunday Morning?
We recognize that attending a church for the first time can be an intimidating process. To make your first trip to the Vineyard a little
easier, here are some things you can expect when you show up:
Child care - Nursery is provided for infants and toddlers. This loving, comfortable atmosphere helps show children at the earliest ages of what it means to seek God.
Children's worship - Bible-oriented activities are often provided for preschool and elementary-age children. At this level, young children are taught to sing, pray, memorize Scripture and learn important Bible truths. They are instructed and led in worship at their own levels.
Music - Music is a major feature of our worship, before, during and even after the service itself. Inspired singing is the order of the day ranging from hand-clapping songs or intimate worshipful.
Worship experience -- The service may include quiet times of waiting in God's presence, spiritually savoring the sacred atmosphere. Other times may be vocal with collective praise as worshippers are invited to spontaneously express love and adoration to God. No one need feel out of place here. Each expression will blend without disruption into the flow of worship.
Prayer - At times a we may dedicate a special time in the service is devoted to prayer. Needs from inside and outside the church family frequently are made known.
Ministry to the sick - As in the New Testament, specific prayer may be offered for the sick. They will be invited forward to be prayed for.
Giving - During the service, tithes and offerings will be received. More than a collection to pay church bills, this too is worship. It recognizes His blessing, expresses faith and seeks His guidance in every matter in life.
Spiritual gifts - An interesting aspect of the Vineyard is the operation of spiritual gifts. The planned service order may be suspended as individuals speak or share as prompted by the Holy Spirit, under the supervision of the pastor (1 Corinthians 12-14).
Challenging messages - The service comes with the preaching of God's Word, the Bible, and an invitation for hearers to respond. The pastor or speaker may close with an invitation for those who need to pray about concerns.

If you've wondered what a spirit-filled service is like, we invite you to observe and experience God's joy and peace that defy description. And when you visit again, come expecting. Expect a move of God not only in the service, but also in your life. We think you'll agree that the comfort, help and strength He gives are better experienced than explained.
